The Mohammed VI Foundation for African Oulema today held the closing ceremony of a prestigious Hadith Competition recently organized to inspire young men and women to deepen their understanding of the Prophet’s teachings. The competition, which drew participants from various regions and states across Nigeria, culminated in a grand finale held at the Abuja National Mosque Conference Hall.
A total of 560 participants took part in the competition, which was divided into three categories: memorization of 40 Hadiths, memorization and meaning of 35 Hadiths, and memorization and jurisprudence of 25 Hadiths with Ahkam (Islamic rulings). The competition began with an online preselection round, which narrowed down the participants to 30 finalists.
The winners in each category received cash rewards, with the first position receiving N250,000, second position N200,000, and third position N150,000.
The competition was designed to promote the Sunnah and encourage young people to adhere to the teachings of the Prophet.
Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari, the lead organizer of the competition in Nigeria, emphasized that the event aimed to promote the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad and enhance the study, memorization, and application of Hadiths among young African youths. He noted that the competition was an initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Oulema, led by His Royal Majesty, King Mohammed VI, and that the winners would represent Nigeria at the international stage.
The winners expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the competition and credited the event with deepening their understanding of the Hadith. One of the winners, Ahmad Abdulsalam Kolawole from Offa, Kwara state, said that the competition had not only taught him the importance of adhering to the Sunnah but also exposed him to Hadiths he was not familiar with.
The Director-General of the foundation expressed his gratitude to Allah, the King of Morocco, and the President of Nigeria,Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support, and prayed for the continued success of the participants.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and cash rewards to the winners. The organizers announced that the winners would undergo further training and mentorship to prepare them for an international competition in Morocco, where they will represent Nigeria and compete with other participants from around the world.
The attendees of the event, including prominent Islamic scholars and dignitaries, praised the initiative and urged young people to take advantage of such opportunities to deepen their knowledge of Islam.
The competition is part of the foundation’s efforts to promote Islamic knowledge and values among young people, and to encourage them to adhere to the teachings of the Prophet.
