Mrs Nana Hauwa Adéyemí, who is one of the wives of prominent scholar Dr. Abdulfattah Adeyemi and a Clinical Nurse instructor ,chief Nursing officer , post basic oncology Nursing school, National hospital Abuja said in her online lecture on FRIDAY at Baynakum Singledom whatsapp platform on the Topic : HEALTHY RAMADAN : WHAT TO EAT & HOW TO EAT, that :- ” It is recommended to eat suhoor”.
Suhoor she said, is the light meal before the beginning of the fast every day; this applied especially to special groups such as older people, adolescents, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, as well as children who choose to fast”.
Hauwa stated in her lecture that the sahuur meal, which constituted a light breakfast, needed to include vegetables, a serving of carbohydrates such as bread/bread roll made from wholewheat, protein-rich food such as dairy products (cheese that is not salty/labane/milk) and/or egg, as well as an avocado side dish.
She further stated that two slices of bread, Vegetable omelet or hard-boiled egg ,Sliced vegetables from two vegetables( carrot lettuce), Labane or cheese with added olive oil, Herbal tea (flavored green tea) etc were examples of sahuur meals.
“the idea is not how much you eat but how nourishing. when you eat much the fast will weigh you down more than when you eat light but nourished meal” she said.
Hauwa also recommended that plain Yoghurt,banana, fruit smoothies etc was also a good combo for suhoor.
