I haven’t urinated freely for two years,ailing Journalist, Walter Ukaegbu cries out for help

An Abuja based journalist, Walter Ukaegbu who has been down with kidney failure has called on well meaning Nigerians home and abroad to come to his aid and not to let him die.
Ukaegbu whose health has deteriorated has been on dialysis since 2018 and he need the sum of N9 million to run a kidney transparent to ever step on his feet again.
The journalist said he has spent N5million on the ailment in the past five years excluding many pint of bloods he has bought in the process.
According to him ” I need financial assistance, I spend the minimum of N27,000 every week for dialysis. I have been suffering from kidney failure since 2018 and this has taken a huge toll on me financially and denied me opportunity
to urinate freely”
“I noticed the sickness in July 2018 when I had pains on the side part of my abdomen. I went to Gilgal Hospital in my estate which recommended me for Scan and tests.
‘‘I also developed leg pains which made me go to Primus Hospital Caro. From there I went to the Federal Medical Centre Airport Road where a team of doctors diagnosed me and discovered I had kidney problems.
‘‘Since they do not have neurologist, they referred me to Gariki General Hospital where I have been undergoing dialysis for more than two years now, which has depleted my funds completely due to the cost of treatment and has rendered me completely empty.
Ukaegbu has been on admission in a private hospital in Abuja awaiting the expected financial help from public spirited Nigerians, Government agencies, philanthropists,.Civil Society Groups, churches, mosque and media organisations for continued treatment so that he can live.
Dr. Busari Kudirat, a consultant nephrologist who is handling the case could not be reached but available records obtained by our correspondent from hospitals’ patient records office showed that the patient ( Walter Ukaegbu ) first visited the hospital in September 2019 and attended to by the former consultant nephrologist in the hospital who has relocated to Lagos.
According to a health record officer ” since then Ukaegbu has been coming from time to time for routine medical check up Records from system indicated the last Mr. Ukaegbu visited the hospital was August 12th 2021. He was scheduled for dialysis for that day but could not perhaps for financial reasons as reflected in our records. His last dialysis in the hospital according to the records was on August 3, 2021 and it was Dr. Busari that attended to him.
He was also placed on weekly/bi-monthly dialysis because of the state of his health which will cost him a fortune.
Ukaegbu is a native of Item, Bende local government area of Abia State. He is working with Sun Newspaper, in Abuja, where he has been plying his trade since 1986 until the sickness struck.
