In a significant move to enhance the welfare of officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the distribution of new uniforms and kits to personnel of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). This initiative is part of the IGP’s ongoing efforts to improve the working conditions and morale of police officers across the country.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday. According to the statement, this initiative aligned with the IGP’s vision of fostering professionalism and better working conditions within the force.
The IGP expressed optimism that the recently approved 2025 budget would allow for the implementation of more welfare-focused projects aimed at supporting officers in performing their duties effectively. “The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to maintaining a well-equipped and motivated workforce for the safety and security of all Nigerians,” the statement read.
Earlier, the IGP addressed allegations regarding conflicting budget documents submitted to the National Assembly. The controversy arose during the defense of the 2025 budget, where it was alleged that the police presented inconsistent versions of the budget.
In a statement, IGP Egbetokun clarified that the confusion stemmed from a misunderstanding over the comprehensive and abridged versions of the budget provided to the committee members. He explained that the abridged version was presented for ease, as all members had access to both documents beforehand. Despite this, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi North, who arrived late to the session, referenced the comprehensive version, leading to the misunderstanding.
The IGP refuted any claims of discrepancies, emphasizing that both versions were identical in content. He urged stakeholders to focus on the critical security needs of the nation rather than being distracted by avoidable disputes.
