The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritise the accurate capture and management of suspects’ information to strengthen intelligence-led policing and modernise criminal investigations in Nigeria.
The IGP gave the directive on Wednesday during the opening of a one-day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The workshop focused on sensitising participants on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project. The initiative is aimed at enhancing crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, inter-agency collaboration and proactive crime prevention.
Speaking at the event, IGP Disu emphasised that modern policing increasingly depends on timely, accurate and actionable data, noting that effective law enforcement can no longer rely solely on conventional investigative methods.
He described the Crime and Incident Database Centre as a critical national policing asset capable of improving investigative outcomes, tracking criminal trends, identifying repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions and supporting informed operational and strategic decision-making.
The police chief reiterated his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation and intelligence-led strategies to improve policing nationwide. He also called for strict compliance with established procedures for capturing suspects’ information across all commands and formations.
According to him, effective management of criminal data will enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s crime management architecture.
IGP Disu further urged participants to actively engage in the workshop and develop practical solutions that will support the Nigeria Police Force’s drive towards a more professional, accountable and citizen-focused policing system.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to using technology and innovation to improve service delivery, enhance public safety and strengthen national security.
