Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim’s Sustainable Solutions to Nigeria’s IDPs, By Abubakar Yusuf.

Since the appointment of Hajiya Imaan-Suleiman as the new Honorable Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Person’s NCFRMI in June 2021 , alot of reforms had stabilized the activities of genuine IDPs and Person’s of Concern POC’s, away from the counterfeit ones operating under the guise of the vulnerable groups.

 

The new Honorable Federal Commissioner did not spent much time to understudy the activities of the commission in the usual manner of the public service, but quickly settled down to execute the mandate of the agency and carried out wholistic reforms in line with the global requirements and development partners both locally and internationally.

 

Aside converting all temporary programs of the commission to permanent ones, she introduced genuine reforms that will place the IDPs, Person’s of Concern POC’s in a vantage positions post COVID, two global economic recession, and the activities of both local and artificial occurrences that had affected the IDPs in temporary and transit abode across the country.

 

The permanent solutions to the basic needs of the IDPs which included accomodation, feeding, health, education among many others in synergy with both public and private sector had resolved the dire requirements of the IDPs and POC’s penultimate her assumption of duty, at the top echelon of the agency.

 

These singular ideas of provision of basic necessities of life had brought the perennial issues of turning IDPs to road side beggers before her assumption of duty as a thing of the past.

 

The provision of beffiting accomodation for the IDPs, timely medical attention to the POC’s and subsequent compliance to the medical advises on their health status, have made the IDPs to live a normal life outside their domain.

 

This can be buttressed with the launching and treatment of COVID and setting of a permanent station for treatment of IDPs in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA to provide not only treatment, but vaccines, and other medicaments including non pharmaceutical products to prevent effects of COVID among others diseases.

 

With sound health status, the provision of engagement outlets of various degrees and shapes became alot easier for the current handlers under Hajiya Imaan-Suleiman Ibrahim.

 

With various degrees of collaboration, multilateral and bilateral agreements both with local and international organizations, NCFRMI introduced many projects along with the basic ones that provided a level playing ground for the IDPs and POC’s.

 

The constant training in skill development, capacity building, enterpreneurial development and innovations in collaboration with National Information Technology and Development Agency NITDA, and an indigenous motor company, Anambra Motor Company ANAMCO the operators/ producers of INNOSSON Motors was the best thing that has happened to the vulnerable groups in Nigeria in recent times.

 

From the project zero hunger, to project health, project skill acquisition, project education among many other interventions had brought course for the celebration of IDPs day for the first time in Nigeria.

 

These newly introduced projects had brought the IDPs and POC’s at par with the people living their normal lives in Nigeria under the leadership of Hajiya Imaan-Suleiman Ibrahim, the Honourable Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Person’s NCFRMI.
