President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is committed to ending the country’s security challenges, expressing confidence that insecurity will soon become a thing of the past.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr. Lima Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the Federal Government was giving the security situation the highest priority, citing the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State as evidence of ongoing efforts.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is giving the security situation his utmost attention. The recent release of the schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State is a clear indication that the administration is working tirelessly to address insecurity,” Akpabio said.
He expressed optimism that the government’s security interventions would soon yield lasting results.
“The current administration is doing a whole lot, and I can assure you that very soon, the issue of insecurity will be a thing of the past. Don’t rely on what you hear or see on social media, as they do not present the true picture of what is happening in our country,” he added.
The Senate President also spoke on women’s participation in politics, attributing the reluctance of women to support one another during elections to the negative experiences created by some female officeholders who failed to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He urged women to remain united and continue supporting one another in their quest for greater representation in leadership and public office.
Akpabio further pledged the support of the Senate for the forthcoming international ladies’ golf tournament to be hosted at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Earlier, the National President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Dr. Lima Ahmed, thanked the Senate President for receiving the delegation and formally invited him to the international tournament.
She also decorated Akpabio as the Grand Patron of the association in recognition of his support for the development of women’s golf in Nigeria.
