In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, Fabulous Minds Women Initiatives (FMWI), in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), has emphasized the crucial role of women in driving social change and fostering inclusivity.
The event, themed “Women As Agents of Change,” held on March 8 in Abuja, brought together professionals from various fields for a roundtable dialogue on gender equality, advocacy, and strategic partnerships between men and women to accelerate progress.
Panelists included Mrs. Omosehin Romoke, an educational consultant; Mrs. Theodora Obayojie, a strategic writer and family therapist; Mr. Ugochukwu Okereke, Head of IT at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); and Dr. Kenneth Onyejekwe, a Consultant General Surgeon. The discussion centered on empowering women, dismantling gender biases, and fostering collaboration for a just and equitable society.
Delivering the keynote address, the Director General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, represented by Mrs. Adesola Olowokere, highlighted the persistent struggles of Nigerian women and underscored the importance of amplifying their voices against gender-based inequalities.
Dr. Onyejekwe called on women to shed self-limiting beliefs and assert their rights, particularly in critical areas such as healthcare decisions. He also urged government institutions to implement inclusive policies that recognize women as equal partners in development.
Mrs. Obayojie advocated for strategic partnerships between men and women in gender advocacy, emphasized that incorporating men into women’s empowerment initiatives would help break long-standing cultural stereotypes. She encouraged mothers to instill gender equity values in their children to reshape societal norms.
Mr. Okereke advised women to localize their advocacy efforts within the African socio-cultural context rather than relying on foreign models that may face resistance.
Mrs. Omosehin stressed the importance of fathers playing active roles in shaping their daughters’ confidence and resilience. She also encouraged women to build strong networks and support systems to foster continuous growth.
The event, hosted by Mrs. Betty Agunobi, President of FMWI, reaffirmed the commitment of both organizations to championing gender equity and creating a society where women are empowered to lead and influence change.
