Honourable Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike (JCA) has called for collective national responsibility in tackling road crashes, urged Nigerians to actively participate in promoting safety on the country’s roads.
She made the appeal during her investiture as an Honourary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), where she stressed that safeguarding lives should not be left to authorities alone but must involve every road user.
Justice Nyesom-Wike challenged citizens to move beyond passive concern and embrace active roles within the FRSC Special Marshals scheme, noting that reducing road accidents requires vigilance, discipline, and commitment from all.
The ceremony, held under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sector Command, was presided over by the Zonal Commanding Officer RS7HQ, Assistant Corps Marshal Comfort Asom, who represented the Corps Marshal. She highlighted the importance of Special Marshals as key advocates of road safety, urging them to demonstrate integrity, patriotism, and dedication in service.
The event also featured the National Coordinator of Special Marshals, Engr. Dr. Usman Adaji, and was attended by several Justices of the Court of Appeal, adding prestige to the occasion.
In his remarks, the FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu, reiterated the command’s commitment to strengthening public engagement and expanding road safety awareness across the territory. He noted that the inclusion of prominent figures like Justice Nyesom-Wike would help influence public attitudes and improve compliance with traffic laws.
In her acceptance speech, Justice Nyesom-Wike warned against reckless road behaviour and urged Nigerians to adopt safer practices to prevent avoidable tragedies. She called for increased awareness of the dangers of road crashes and a united effort to reduce them nationwide.
The FRSC continues to emphasize citizen participation as a key strategy in its mission to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities across Nigeria.
