LAGOS TASK FORCE NABS NOTORIOUS TRAFFIC ROBBER

A young man, known for his notoriety of forcibly dispossessing motorists of their valuables in Lagos traffic, has run into the waiting hands of operatives of the Lagos State Task Force.

The suspect, Oluwole Kayode, 27, was nabbed by the eagle-eyed operatives after smashing the driver’s side screen of a Toyota Corolla car with a hammer and made away with two phones and a bag containing other valuables.

Oluwole, Crimepuzzle gathered, had always hid under the guise of hawking soft drinks and all sorts of water, bottled and sachet, in traffic, only to turn around and show his real trade, on sighting a vulnerable target.

Chairman of the Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, stated in a press release, signed by the Agency’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adebayo Taofik, that the traffic robber was apprehended by officers of the Agency, who were positioned on the Oshodi bridge, to check criminal activities of the likes of Oluwole, especially during traffic gridlocks.

Meanwhile, according to Egbeyemi, “Immediately the suspect was arrested and all stolen items recovered, the victim was reached on phone to pick up her bag and other personal effects at the Task Force office in Bolade, Oshodi

Oluwole, who hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State, confessed to have long been in the business, adding that he usually smashed hammer on side screens of vehicles whose occupants proved complacent and recalcitrant.

Hear him: “Yes, I smashed hammer on her vehicle side screen because the woman refused to surrender her bag and the two phones in her possession.

The exceedingly happy victim, Mrs Hadizatul Jiddah, commended the efforts of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police in ridding the state of crime, while also thanking the Task Force operatives for their prompt intervention, saying, “If not for the prompt intervention of the personnel of the Lagos State Task Force, my bag and the two phones would have gone”.

Egbeyemi, however, commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s exemplary and qualitative leadership style, saying his vision for the state spurred him to providing necessary and modernised security tools for security agencies.

He reiterated the commitment of the Agency to the well-being of the citizenry, saying, “We will not relent; we shall continue to fight the good battle to rid Oshodi and the state as a whole of crime and criminality” .

The Agency boss noted that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, had directed that the arrested traffic robber be charged to court, even as he further directed that a manhunt be launched for other members of the syndicate operating in the state

In another development, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, has directed the state Task Force to embark on strict operational enforcement on motorists flouting the Lagos State Road Traffic Law of 2012.

The CP was quoted as saying that the massive infrastructural development going on simultaneously across the state, at the instance of the state government, was not a good reason to flout traffic laws across the State.

CP Imohimi, however, warned motorists, particularly around Pen-Cinema, Agege, Dopemu, Ile-Zik, Oshodi, Mile 2, Berger, Igando and Lasu-Iba road, to stop driving against traffic, thereby causing obstructions to other road users.
