In view of the forthcoming March 18th Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Niger State, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has deployed AIG Election Zone 7, AIG Aishatu Abubakar supervising Niger State/FCT from AIG Vetrinary FHQ Abuja to oversee and coordinate security arrangements for the elections in Niger State.
Similarly, other Senior Police officers were equally deployed to supervise security arrangements in the three senatorial districts of the State, which are; CP Susan Horsefall and DCP Aina Emmanuel to Niger South, CP Kayode Adetumbi and DCP Barayilmil A. Samaila to Niger North, while DCP Sarah Ehindero, ACP Mohammed Abubakar and ACP Hamzat Abdulkadir are deployed to Niger East among other officers.
AIG Aishatu Abubakar had an interactive session with senior officers and DPOs of the Command where she directed them to exhibit high level of professionalism and abide by the Force standard operational guidelines for election duty. She warned officers to be mindful of their conduct in conformity to Human rights standard and be gender sensitive, be courteous to women, vulnerable people with disability and others, to exercise their civic rights peacefully.
As part of the preparation for the elections, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Commamd CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji had earlier directed Area Commanders, and DPOs to ensure adequate security coverage of all polling units/IDPs voting centres in the State by deploying police and other security agencies personnel under the inter-agency consultative committee for election security (ICCES) having undergone series of training and retraining on standard operational guidelines.
The personnel will equally be deployed to escort sensitive and non-sensitive materials to various LGAs and Wards, and other layers of deployment for visibility policing and confidence-building patrol of every nooks and crannies of the state.
CP Ogundele further directed officers to ensure strict enforcement of the IGP’s directive on restriction of vehicular movement from 12am-6pm on election day towards having a peaceful electoral process
“The Command hereby admonishes parents/guardians to warn their wards not to engage in any form of violence, political thuggery or attempt to snatch ballot boxes, as the Command is battle ready for any miscreant who may want to foment trouble before, during and after the election. Nigerlites/members of the public are enjoined to exercise their franchise peacefully and return home, as the Command has put necessary security arrangements in place for a peaceful and credible gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in Niger State.
