The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their recent directive aimed at reducing the cost of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
In an official statement issued by Deputy Director of Information and Publication, Fatima Sanda Usara, NAHCON described the move as “thoughtful and timely,” offering significant relief to thousands of intending pilgrims across the country.
“The President’s instruction to review Hajj fares downward shows a government that listens and responds to the people’s concerns. It reflects genuine empathy for the financial strain faced by many Muslims who dream of performing the sacred pilgrimage,” the statement read.
The Commission also welcomed the federal government’s advice for pilgrims and State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards to take advantage of the current strength of the Naira by making early payments. This, according to NAHCON, will allow for early remittances and help lock in the benefits of a favorable exchange rate.
Alhaji Ibrahim Hadeja, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, highlighted this strategy after a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa.
NAHCON praised the administration’s responsiveness and understanding of the Commission’s operational realities and the economic challenges facing Nigerian pilgrims. It further noted that this directive aligned with President Tinubu’s broader commitment to improving Hajj administration in the country by making it more affordable, transparent, and efficient.
The Commission pledged to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the directive and a seamless 2026 Hajj experience.
Intending pilgrims are urged to prepare for early payments once the new fare is officially announced, allowing their respective boards to take prompt action in remitting funds through the Central Bank of Nigeria while the exchange rate remains favorable.
