The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has unveiled a comprehensive reform-driven agenda aimed at strengthening discipline, welfare delivery and financial prudence within the Association.
Mrs Shaibu made this known while presiding over her maiden Executive and General Meetings held on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13, 2026, at the AHQ Command Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.
As the 25th President of NAOWA, she described the two-day engagement as a defining moment focused on purposeful leadership, institutional evaluation and strategic direction. According to her, the meetings were deliberate working sessions designed to consolidate structures, promote accountability and reposition the Association for measurable nationwide impact.
During the maiden Executive Meeting, Mrs Shaibu reaffirmed NAOWA’s commitment to service and support for military families, while acknowledging the contributions of past Presidents, Coordinators and Chairpersons. She noted that her administration would build on existing foundations through reforms anchored on four cardinal pillars — Welfare, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Accountability with Structure.
She stressed the need to strengthen structured welfare interventions for widows and vulnerable families, promote sustainable initiatives that enhance financial self-reliance, and expand empowerment programmes through skills acquisition and education. The NAOWA President also emphasized clearly defined responsibilities, proper documentation and strict adherence to established procedures across all chapters.
A key highlight of the Executive Meeting was the presentation of reports by Coordinators and Chairpersons detailing activities, achievements and challenges within their respective chapters, providing insights that guided deliberations and strategic resolutions.
The session also featured operational guideline lectures. Mrs Dorathy Maxwell Dangana delivered a presentation on discipline and communication channels, emphasizing respect for hierarchy and proper communication processes for effective administration. Mrs Florence Godwin Mutkut spoke on NAOWA’s policy, procedures and finance, underscoring financial discipline, transparency and compliance with established guidelines as critical to institutional credibility.
The reform agenda continued at the maiden General Meeting on Friday, where Mrs Shaibu consolidated outcomes from the Executive deliberations and reaffirmed her administration’s strategic direction.
“Our work is not ceremonial; it is practical and impactful,” she said, urging chapters nationwide to translate resolutions into measurable actions while maintaining unity and regular communication.
The General Meeting featured lectures aimed at strengthening institutional knowledge and promoting wellbeing. Dr Nafeesat Bisola Dada spoke on meticulousness as a legacy for military spouses, while Dr Olusegun Shoyombo delivered a session on stress, anxiety and emotional fatigue, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness among women. Mrs Dangana and Mrs Mutkut also reinforced key messages from their earlier presentations.
In her vote of thanks, the Deputy President of NAOWA, Mrs Sikirat Alabi, commended the President for her visionary leadership and appreciated participants for their commitment to advancing the Association’s objectives.
The two-day engagement concluded with a dinner on Friday evening, fostering camaraderie and renewed commitment among members. Activities included lecture presentations, interactive sessions, presentation of souvenirs, cake cutting and group photographs.
The event marked the beginning of what the Association described as a reform-oriented leadership phase focused on accountability, welfare enhancement and sustainable empowerment initiatives.
