Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, joined his colleagues as members of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), met to deliberate on issues pertaining to the scheduled national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting held at the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge, in Abuja, on Monday.
Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, Chairman of the forum and governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, said the meeting reviewed the recent court judgement that dissolved the party’s primary election in Kano State, as well as preparation for the national convention.
Bagudu said members of the forum took briefings from Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, who is also Chairman, National Caretaker Committee and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC.
He disclosed that the meeting also discussed the meeting the governors will have with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
On the uncertainty surrounding the conduct of the party’s national convention, the chairman of the PGF, said they were aware of the situation and that the governors, will work with other stakeholders of the party towards ensuring that the APC conducts a transparent, honest national convention that will deliver national executives who will earn the confidence of all party members.
On the alleged national convention time table said to be released by the Mai Mala Buni national committee, Bagudu reserved his comment till after the group’s meeting with President Buhari.
“First, we appreciate that Nigerians are interested in what the APC is doing because Nigerians gave us their mandate by electing us into offices and holding us to higher standards. We are very conscious of that.
“All the APC governors have met and as always, have appreciated the need to work together with the other stakeholders, we have always been humbled to acknowledge that we are not the only stakeholders of the party.
“We work with other stakeholders and to ensure that we deliver transparent, honest national executives that will earn the confidence of all party members,” Bagudu stated.
He however refused to comment on the alleged time table said to be issued by the national caretaker committee of the party, until after their meeting with the President.
“Until we finish the meeting with Mr.President, we rather not comment on any time table and any logistics issue,” he said
