The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned a landmark e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State, in a move aimed at leveraging digital technologies to improve access to quality healthcare across Nigeria.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the project underscores the Commission’s commitment to integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the health sector for efficient service delivery.
“This project is a testament to our collective resolve to harness ICT to revolutionise the health sector in a manner that better serves citizens,He added that the initiative aligns with NCC’s broader agenda of driving innovation, research, and inclusive growth in the nation’s digital economy. Dr Maida stated.
According to him, the adoption of e-health solutions will help streamline medical processes, improve patient care, and ensure effective management of health records.
“With this deployment, healthcare professionals at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, are now better equipped to provide timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care, which will ultimately enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction,” he noted.
Maida emphasized the importance of partnerships, commending stakeholders who contributed to the successful delivery of the project, including technology experts and government institutions.
“This collaboration has produced a model that can be replicated in other regions, thereby ensuring that the benefits of ICT in healthcare are extended nationwide,” he said.
The EVC concluded by reaffirming the NCC’s dedication to advancing digital transformation across all sectors of the economy, particularly in ways that directly impact the lives of Nigerian citizens.
The event was attended by top government officials, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders from the ICT sector.
