The Niger State Police Command has commenced immediate enforcement against motorists using covered, defaced, or unregistered number plates across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the action followed concerns over the increasing rate at which some motorists deliberately cover, tamper with, or remove vehicle registration number plates.
According to Abiodun, such acts violate Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act 2004 and Regulation 38 of the National Road Traffic Regulation, 2012, which require all vehicles on public roads to display clear and valid registration number plates at all times.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, has consequently directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across Niger State to commence immediate enforcement.
The Command urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, display number plates on both the front and rear sides, and remove any form of obstruction covering their plates.
It also appealed to members of the public, transport unions, and drivers to cooperate with police personnel during the exercise, stressing that the enforcement is aimed at improving security and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
