The Niger State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs, including the arrest of a suspected cultist with a firearm, apprehension of suspects linked to cattle theft, recovery of rustled livestock, and interception of goods allegedly being diverted.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that operatives attached to ‘B’ Division in Bida arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Agada Isaac, also known as “Tee-light,” during a routine patrol on April 22.
The suspect was reportedly sighted approaching a temporary police checkpoint on a motorcycle at about 2 a.m. but fled upon noticing officers, raising suspicion. He was chased and apprehended, and a search led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol. Further search at his residence uncovered military camouflage items, including a cap, knicker, and jacket.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the cult group known as “Vikings” and revealed that he purchased the firearm for ₦300,000 from an accomplice identified as Gideon, alias “Starboy,” who is currently at large in Suleja. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and other accomplices.
In a separate development, police operatives arrested two suspects in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property. The suspects, Anthony Ahmed, 37, and Hajia Aisha Shuaibu, 70, were linked to the theft of a cow valued at over ₦1 million in Gatatu.
According to the police, the cow was stolen in the early hours of April 21 by two suspects still at large, identified as Talba and Suleiman, and subsequently taken to Ahmed’s residence where it was slaughtered and sold to Shuaibu. Items recovered from the suspects include the cow’s head, legs, tail, and skin. Both suspects reportedly confessed, with Shuaibu stating she purchased the cow for ₦350,000. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects have been intensified.
Meanwhile, the Command also announced the recovery of four rustled cattle following a distress report from a camp near Tagwai Dam in Chanchaga Local Government Area. The cattle were stolen by armed hoodlums in the early hours of April 11.
Police operatives from the Crack Squad, acting on intelligence, tracked the suspects to a forest in Lapai, where a gun duel ensued. The suspects fled, abandoning the animals, which were subsequently recovered and returned to their rightful owner. Investigation is ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
In another operation, police intercepted a truck allegedly attempting to divert a large consignment of engine and hydraulic oil. The truck, driven by Mohammed Yusuf, was en route from Lagos to Abuja but was reportedly being diverted to Kano.
The vehicle was intercepted at Lambata by operatives from Gawu-Babangida Division. Four suspects—Mohammed Yusuf, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, Sadiq Umar, and Abubakar Isah—were arrested in connection with the incident. The goods recovered include 50 jerricans of 25 litres of engine oil, 400 cartons of engine oil, 99 drums of engine oil, and 400 jerricans of hydraulic oil.
All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to contact the company involved.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
