Preparations for the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW) have intensified, as key stakeholders across Nigeria’s agricultural sector mobilise support ahead of the July 27–30, 2026 event.
Delegates from the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) have commenced strategic engagements, taking advocacy for the continental gathering directly to critical government institutions.
Leading the delegation on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Abubakar Adamu Dabban, visited the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, to solicit support and strengthen collaboration.
During the meeting, Kyari emphasised the importance of showcasing Nigeria’s innovations and technological advancements in agriculture. He also stressed the need for knowledge exchange to address existing gaps within the sector, while pledging the ministry’s full support for the conference, describing it as a commendable initiative.
The delegation also visited the Ministry of Livestock Development, where the Minister, Mukhtar Maiha, identified priority areas the conference should address, particularly the need to attract investment in quality livestock production tools. Maiha assured the team of his ministry’s commitment and active participation in the event.
Speaking earlier, FARA team lead, Oluwole Fatunbi, reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to collaborate closely with Nigerian partners to deliver a world-class science week that will drive innovation and strengthen partnerships across Africa’s agrifood systems.
With activities tailored towards fostering innovation and uniting stakeholders, expectations are high for a successful and impactful agrifood week.
The 9th AASW will be held under the theme: “Innovations and Partnerships for Resilient and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Africa.”
