Nigerian Army’s commitment to security of lives and property in Edo State commendable – Gov Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has acknowledged and commended the commitment of the Nigerian Army in ensuring peaceful coexistence and protection of lives and properties in Edo State.

The Governor made the commendation when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army Major General Valentine Okoro on courtesy visit in his office at Edo State Government House Benin City on 16 August 2023.
Governor Obaseki stressed that Edo State has enjoyed a very cordial relationship with the Nigerian Army and extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving the construction of 2 Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Edo State. He said the FOBs with other operations conducted by the Nigerian Army have truncated the activities of criminals within the State.
The GOC while stating the purpose of his visit; said it is customary that he visit the Governor while he is on operational visit to 4 Brigade Area of Responsibility. He appreciated the Governor for his unwavering support to the Brigade,most especially in terms of power supply as the Brigade has been connected to the state owned Ossiomo Power Plant which supplied 24 hours light to the Brigade Headquarter at no cost to the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, the GOC visited the Military Hospital Benin and the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport where he was properly briefed by the Acting Commander and Acting Commandant Col PO Abumire and Brigadier General ND Shagaya respectively. The GOC expressed delight on both Commanders on their achievement so far and urged them not to relent in ensuring that the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff is achieved.
Similarly, the GOC also visited the FOB Ehor. He was briefed by the Officer in Charge Major KO Ekpete on the activities of the FOB; thereafter he enjoined the troops to be up and doing in curbing the threat around their area of responsibility – he emphasized on professionalism and discipline.
