The Nigerian Navy has arrested three suspected pipeline vandals linked to the breach of the Oando–Ondewari pipeline at Ogboinbiri Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to a press statement issued by Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, the arrests were carried out under Operation DELTA SENTINEL following an intelligence-led joint operation involving naval personnel and a private pipeline surveillance outfit.
The operation was triggered after reports of a deliberate tampering of the pipeline corridor operated by Oando PLC. Subsequent inspections confirmed the vandalism, which resulted in a crude oil spill and posed risks to critical national energy infrastructure.
Acting on actionable intelligence, naval operatives stormed a suspected hideout in Ondewari Community in the early hours of 12 June 2026, leading to the arrest of three suspects. Preliminary investigations reportedly linked them to the act, while a fourth suspect remains at large.
The Nigerian Navy said the operation underscores its continued commitment to protecting oil and gas assets, combating economic sabotage, and curbing crude oil theft across the Niger Delta region.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate agency for prosecution in accordance with extant laws.
The Navy further reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations under Operation DELTA SENTINEL to safeguard critical national assets and strengthen security across Nigeria’s maritime and energy corridors.
