The Nigerian Navy has rescued several victims trapped in the aftermath of a building collapse at Alakija in Lagos State, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and supporting civil authorities during emergencies.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain AA Folorunsho, naval personnel responded promptly after receiving a distress call and joined other emergency responders in the search and rescue operation.
The statement said the swift intervention, professionalism, and dedication of the rescue team led to the successful rescue of several victims from the rubble, who were immediately evacuated for urgent medical attention.
The rescued victims were taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, Lagos, where they received emergency treatment and are currently receiving further medical care from the hospital’s medical personnel.
Commending the efforts of the rescue team, the Chief of the Naval Staff praised the courage and professionalism displayed by the personnel involved in the operation, as well as the medical staff of the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo.
He also appreciated the collaboration of other emergency response agencies and members of the public, noting that their collective efforts contributed significantly to the success of the rescue mission.
The Nigerian Navy expressed sympathy to the families of those affected by the unfortunate incident and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
The Service reiterated its readiness to continue providing humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities whenever called upon, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
