In line with the federal government’s commitment to digital transformation and efficient service delivery, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commenced the training of 1000 civil servants from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on Information Technology (IT) Project Clearance processes.
The capacity-building programme, held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Kubwa, Abuja on Tuesday, 25th February 2025., aim to enhance participants’ skills in collaborative planning, budgeting, and management of ICT systems. The training targets ICT, Budget, Finance, and Planning Officers in Federal Public Institutions to ensure the seamless execution of digital projects in the public sector.
Speaking at the opening session, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, represented by the agency’s Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions, Mr. Oladejo Olawunmi, highlighted the importance of strategic planning and funding in driving digital transformation.
He noted that the programme aligned with NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0, which focuses on talent development, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, innovation, and policy enablement to build a sustainable digital economy.
Inuwa acknowledged challenges such as inadequate collaboration among stakeholders, poor ICT infrastructure maintenance, and insufficient capacity-building, which have hindered the success of government-led digital projects. He, however, assured that NITDA is strengthening its IT project clearance processes to ensure that digital initiatives are well-conceptualized, planned, and executed in line with national priorities.
“While there have been notable achievements, only 12 percent of Federal Public Institutions currently comply with the process, necessitating a whole-of-government approach for full alignment with national digital transformation goals,” he said.
Participants were urged to take advantage of the training to enhance their expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and project monitoring to deliver measurable outcomes in their respective roles.
The training will be conducted in batches, with sessions led by experts and practical case studies to equip civil servants with actionable knowledge for effective digital project implementation.
