The Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Oba Rilwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu at his palace in Isale Eko, Lagos, ahead of the forthcoming 70th Anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy.
The visit was aimed at formally inviting the revered monarch to participate in the anniversary activities and to seek his royal support for the celebrations scheduled to hold from May 29 to June 4.
Speaking during the visit, Commodore Adams-Aliu described the anniversary as a major milestone in the history of the Nigerian Navy, reflecting decades of commitment to maritime security, national defence and regional stability.
He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the Navy and traditional institutions, especially in coastal communities where maritime activities remain critical to economic growth and security.
According to him, the Navy remain committed to strengthening relationships with host communities and key stakeholders as part of efforts to enhance maritime safety and national development.
In his remarks, the Oba of Lagos commended the Nigerian Navy for its dedication to protecting Nigeria’s territorial waters and ensuring safety across the maritime domain.
The monarch also expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his support for the Navy’s initiatives, particularly programmes geared towards strengthening security and promoting unity within the maritime environment.
Activities lined up for the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary include parades, an International Fleet Review at the waterfront in Eko Atlantic, community outreach programmes and other events designed to showcase the operational achievements and historical legacy of the Navy.
The celebration is expected to highlight the enduring role of the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests and contributing to national development since its establishment.
