Chief Chukwuemeka Woke, Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), has praised Total Energies for its proactive efforts in safeguarding oil facilities through effective surveillance and protection measures.
Woke made this commendation on Tuesday at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, during the inspection of a West African Surveillance Platform (WASP) workshop organized for Total Energies’ personnel.
WASP, an industry cooperative, provides oil spill surveillance services across West and Central Africa, offering support such as oil spill consultancy, equipment hire, and wildlife services.
The workshop is part of Total Upstream Company of Nigeria’s 2025 Large Scale Exercise, designed to activate the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan.
Woke lauded Total Energies for investing in the training of its personnel to enhance the security and surveillance of oil facilities.
“This gesture is commendable, as it will empower your personnel to ensure effective surveillance and protection of oil installations,” Woke stated.
He reaffirmed NOSDRA’s dedication to the swift detection and response to oil spills, pledging continued collaboration with operators and stakeholders.
“We will remain proactive by ensuring the speedy detection of spills and responding accordingly to protect the environment,” he added.
