The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a two-day strategic training programme aimed at strengthening personnel capacity in the implementation of operational deliverables and research methodology as part of efforts to enhance national security and improve service delivery.
Speaking at the opening of the training, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, reaffirmed the Corps’ critical role in Nigeria’s security architecture, describing it as unique and indispensable.
According to him, the Corps remains at the forefront of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, disaster management, intelligence gathering, and community engagement. He noted that the training was designed to promote the adoption of research methodology and digitalisation as key drivers for achieving the Corps’ operational objectives in line with the Federal Government’s presidential priorities.
Prof. Audi said the initiative underscores the management’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity through innovation, technology, and evidence-based decision-making. He stressed that contemporary security challenges require analytical approaches, urging personnel to develop research and problem-solving skills capable of generating practical solutions to emerging threats.
The NSCDC boss also emphasized the need for measurable outcomes, stating that knowledge acquired during the programme must translate into visible improvements in service delivery across all formations of the Corps.
Earlier, the Commandant in charge of Planning, Research and Statistics, Peter Okloho, reminded participants that the Federal Government evaluates the Corps based on its statutory mandates and operational deliverables. He urged officers to maintain professionalism and ensure quality reporting after the training.
Also speaking, the Head of the Critical Thinking, Research and Innovation Unit (CTRIU), Dr. Ogunshola Folashade, said the evolving security landscape required a combination of field expertise and critical thinking. She disclosed that the training would focus on implementation strategies for operational deliverables, research methodology, strategic communication, advanced report writing, and institutional best practices.
A major highlight of the event was the induction and administration of the Oath of Allegiance to newly appointed CRTI desk officers by the NSCDC Head of Legal, Commandant Bamiyo Akomolafe.
The training attracted participants from the 36 state commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as representatives from various directorates, departments and units at the Corps’ National Headquarters.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Gever Victor.
