As activities toward the election of new leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) gather momentum, an aspirant for the Chairmanship of Correspondent Chapel in Abuja, Prince Yemi Itodo has unveiled his campaign team.
The list of the campaign organisation which was made public on Sunday, shows that, a senior member of staff of Authority newspaper, Mr. Osisam Ede shall be leading the campaign as the Director-General (DG), while former chairman of the Chapel and former editorial staff of Aljazirah, Comrade Tony Ichekwu shall serve as the campaign Secretary.
Itodo also appointed a Senior Correspondent of ONTV, Samson Adebayo as deputy DG; a Senior Associate with Naij.com, Jane Ibeh as Spokesperson; Rev. Fr. Kenneth Agwu as Director of Finance and Account; Sony Okodugha as Director of Contacts and Mobilization; Romeo Uwalata as Director of Logistics and Welfare; while the Publisher EMPORIUM REPORTERS, Babalola Lukman Laleye is to serve as Director of Planning and Strategies.
Kemi Yusuf was appointed as deputy Spokesperson; while the following emerged as Coordinators from various associations, Paul Anyebe (PJAN), Gloria Josiah (NAWOJ), Haruna Salami (NASS New Media), Christy Aliu (Senate Press Corps), Christy Ekpa (House of Reps Press Corps) and Millicent Umoru (PCN Correspondents).
Inaugurating the campaign committee at Nugget hotel, Abuja at the weekend, Itodo said the choice of the team was made after due consultations with stakeholders of the union, expressing confidence that the team would deliver.
“With the calibre of persons I’m seeing here, I have no doubt that you would deliver me at the poll”, Itodo said, while eulogising the roles each of the members of the team had played in their previous positions of responsibility both at the union and other levels.
The chairmanship hopeful tagged his team ‘NEW DIRECTION 2018’, while assuring to return the chapel to the place of reckoning which would make it be at par with correspondent chapel of other states of the federation.
In their separate remarks, each of the members of the campaign team pledged total commitment to the course of making Yemi Itodo the next chairman of the chapel, adding that, his sterling leadership acumen was enough campaign for him.
Coordinators of over 50 media houses under the chapel shall be made known, according to the aspirant, at a later date.
