The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has encouraged Corps Members to develop a savings culture, invest wisely, and promote peaceful coexistence throughout their service year.
General Nafiu gave this charge while addressing 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Asaya, Kogi State, and Yikpata, Kwara State.
He urged the Corps Members to be prudent in their spending and save for the future, emphasizing that financial discipline is a critical step toward self-reliance.
“Try and save for future use. Savings lead to investments, and whatever you save today becomes a gift to you tomorrow,” he stated.
He also appealed to them to live peacefully with fellow Corps Members and members of their host communities, urging them to respect diverse opinions and local cultures.
“Make friends among yourselves. Your ability to accommodate divergent opinions is a sign of maturity. Respect and appreciate what your hosts are doing differently so you can learn from them,” he added.
The Director General emphasized the importance of contributing meaningfully to the development of host communities so that Corps Members would leave behind lasting legacies.
He further advised them to pay attention to all lectures and camp activities, noting that the knowledge gained would serve as a useful guide throughout their service year.
Presenting the camp situation report in Kogi State, NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Femi Osungbohun disclosed that 1,776 Corps Members were registered—850 males and 926 females including those dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“We have 622 males and 648 females for Kogi, and 228 males and 278 females from the FCT,” he said, commending their conduct and active participation in camp activities.
In a similar report from Kwara State, the State Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Onifade, said a total of 2,290 Corps Members were registered, comprising 1,064 males and 1,226 females, including 1,117 dislodged from Lagos State.
