The Management of National Youth Service Corps NYSC has restated that the scheme will ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 safety guidelines in all its orientation camps during the orientation course.
The NYSC Director General,Brig Gen.Ibrahim Shuaibu stated this at press briefing held in Abuja today 20th October, 2021.
NYSC DG who was represented at the briefing by the Director, Press and Public Relations,Mrs.Adenike Adeyemi said the 2021 Batch “C” Stream 1 orientation course commenced today, Wednesday, 20th October, 2021 in all orientation camps nationwide.
The details orientation course are as follows:
*Commencement/ Registration – Wednesday, 20th October 2021.
*Cut Off Date for Registration – Sunday, 24th October 2021 Swearing-In-Ceremony – Tuesday, 26th October 2021.
*Closing-Ceremony –
Tuesday 9th November 2021
NYSC DG added that details of the orientation exercise has been published in the Print and Online media.
Brig Gen.Shuaibu said all machineries had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
“This is the 7th Orientation Exercise since the outbreak of coronavirus.
” Prospective corps members and staff are aware of COVID-19 rules and safety protocols. In addition, every PCM and camp official would be tested at the camp gate and only those who test negative will gain access into the camp. NCDC officials are present in the 37 orientation camps.
“All camps have been fumigated and decontaminated in readiness to receive prospective Corps Members.
“There will be compulsory use of face mask, 2-meter social distancing and other non-pharmaceutical interventions on safety protocols in all our camps; (a) The hostel arrangement is in compliance with this. (b) Staggered registration of PCMs in batches still undertaken to avoid overcrowding at registration points.
“Synergy with the NCDC is still on. This is to ensure the safety of all prospective corps members and staff including the general public.
“A webinar was organized for prospective corps members with the NCDC on Friday 15th October 2021 on the safe reopening of orientation camps.
“To ensure the safety of prospective corps members, our synergy with security agencies is still very effective. Effective liaison and discuss between the DG NYSC with DSS, NA, NSCDC, Nigeria Police etc.
“Prior to the commencement of the orientation exercise the following meetings were held to ensure smooth and a hitch-free mobilization/orientation exercise:
a. Pre-mobilization workshop; Where Student Affairs Officers, Data Entry Officers of Corps Producing Institutions, Deployment and Relocation Officers of NYSC met to deliberate on more and credible mobilization processes.
b. Meeting with Regulatory Bodies i.e. JAMB, NBTE, NUC, NABTEB, Ministry of Education, Medical &Dental Council of Nigeria and other professional bodies to reiterate that NYSC has zero tolerance for mobilization of unqualified graduates.
c. NYSC Management meeting with State Coordinators, Camp Directors, Camp Commandants on Thursday 14th October to discuss new policy directions and ensure strict Covid-19 protocols during the orientation exercise. Security and welfare of PCMs and Corps Members was exhaustively addressed.
“All married pregnant and nursing mothers not deployed to their husbands’ places of domicile can now proceed to the NYSC camps within their spouses’ states of residence but must present for registration in addition to other documents, evidence of marriage, husbands’ identity and evidence of husbands’ place of domicile”NYSC DG stated.
