The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the February 25th, 2023 general election Mr Peter Obi has always argued that when the person at the helm of affairs is not stealing and his family members and cronies are not stealing, corruption in governance will be reduced by fifty percent.
I can’t agree more with him. The fact is that the Nigerian political system is presently wrecked by the cumulative failure of those in government which in turn gives rise to angry and dissatisfied citizens who, in protest, have taken it upon themselves to undermine governance at all levels through criminality, agitations, and cold indifference to politics.
No democracy survives without the support of the people. In fact, the people is the very spine of any successful democratic state because in such system, the sovereignty resides with them. Unfortunately, that has not been the case in Nigeria for a long while now (if ever at all). We now live in a country where patriotism has become a luxury while ethnic and religious bigotry abounds.
But all hope is not lost as revolution is underway. Ever since Peter Obi threw his hat into the ring, the hope and political enthusiasm of millions of Nigerians for a new Nigeria have continued to grow, hence the huge turnout of voters, mostly first timers, for their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) registration across the geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The choice of Sen. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as Peter Obi’s running mate has further consolidated the hope and enthusiasm of millions of Nigerians for a new Nigeria 🇳🇬. OBI-DATTI candidacy is, indeed, the beginning of the restoration of people’s confidence in governance.
