The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to strengthening international partnerships, trade relations, and border security through sustained engagement with the diplomatic community and global customs administrations.
Speaking during a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception hosted by the NCS at its Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday, Adeniyi said the Service remains dedicated to fostering stronger bilateral and multilateral cooperation aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and economic growth.
The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of diplomatic missions, senior government officials, and top security chiefs, including the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management Team, and representatives of key government institutions.
Addressing the gathering, the CGC expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support in advancing diplomatic and trade relations.
“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” Adeniyi stated.
He disclosed that the Nigeria Customs Service has continued to expand its international engagement through structured collaboration frameworks with more than 20 customs administrations across the world. According to him, these partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity development, and operational cooperation to improve trade facilitation and border management.
The Customs boss stressed that effective collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies has become increasingly important in addressing emerging challenges in global trade, border security, and compliance management.
He noted that modern customs operations now function within an interconnected global environment that requires trust, continuous engagement, and collective responsibility among international stakeholders.
Adeniyi further described the diplomatic reception as an important platform for strengthening relationships, promoting dialogue, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation that will reinforce Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic architecture.
The event concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its proactive efforts in building stronger institutional partnerships and creating an enabling environment for international cooperation and economic development.
The reception underscored the NCS’s growing role in advancing Nigeria’s trade diplomacy agenda while fostering strategic alliances that support national security, revenue generation, and sustainable economic growth.
