The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Abuja council Comrade Paul Ella Abechi is leading a team of seven Nigerian journalists to the united States for the international visitors leadership program next week.
The journalists include Henry Umoru Of Vanguard Newspapers, Omotola Omojola Of NTA, Roluke Ogundele Of AIT, Rafat Salami Of Von, Emeka Nze Of Blueprint Newspaper, and Victorson Agbenson of Radio Nigeria.
The team of journalists were selected after a rigorous screening based on the criteria set by US government for the program which took cognisance of their academic qualifications and experience on the job.
A statement from the council said the tour was to promote good governance and accountability and focusing on the role of journalists.
The ten day project sponsored by the US state department is to examine the impact of murkracking and investigative journalism , the structure of the US government, tools for investigative journalists and the role of non governmental organisations.
The team will visit the US Congress in Washington DC, media organisations in Cleveland Ohio and St Petersburg, Tampa Florida.
They are also expected to be briefed on the structure of the US government, the system of checks and balances, and the nature of inter government relationships as well as responsibilities under a Federal system.
