The Oyo State chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has announced that the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, will on Friday, July 3, 2026, deliver judgment in the long-running legal battle over the use of hijab by Muslim female students at the International School, University of Ibadan (ISI).
In a statement issued on Thursday by the General Secretary of MURIC, Oyo State Chapter, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, the group said the judgment is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. following official notification from the appellate court to all parties involved in the case.
According to the organisation, the appeals centre on the constitutional rights of willing Muslim female students of the International School, University of Ibadan, to wear the hijab in line with their religious beliefs.
MURIC described the case as one of significant public interest, noting that it touches on the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion and the right of citizens to practise their faith without discrimination.
The group commended parents of the affected students, members of the Muslim community, legal representatives and supporters for remaining patient, peaceful and law-abiding throughout the legal proceedings.
It also called on Muslim parents, members of the Ummah and other supporters to attend the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, on Friday to witness what it described as a historic judgment.
While urging those planning to attend to maintain peace and decorum, MURIC appealed to all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law regardless of the court’s decision.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the protection of the constitutional rights and religious freedoms of Nigerian Muslims through lawful and legitimate means.
