We notice with keen dismay the alleged collection of funds and eventual working in tandem with Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAF) terror groups. According to the information, it was insinuated that MURIC Director was to be arrested and prosecuted. We affirm categorically and unequivocally that the allegation is purported to divert attention of the organization from its genuine cause and it is unfounded.
This informed position results from the periodic publication of the organization’s treasury situation which is often followed with appeal for sponsor. Aside that, MURIC became operating in an in dependent and corporate office environment soon after the meeting of itsExecutive members with the National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Prof. Chidi Anselem on September 13, 2013. His enquiry about MURIC office fired the imagination of MURIC to hire a 3 bedroom accommodation as headquarters opposite NNPC filling station, Iba, Ojo.
The present site which house the ongoing building of its headquarters was purchased with well-wishers’ donation in 2018. The only utility van used by the organization came after several years of making do with the Director’s private vehicles in 2019 as aresult of “Operation Badr”.
Upon continual appeal for donations, MURIC had been thriving on the Director’s meagre teacher’s salary to run the organization including payment of staff wages with the exception of little resources coming from scanty pledgers. Despite that, the impact of MURIC is palpable considering the socio-moral outlook of the polity.
The question we are tempted to ask is that “Is it a crime to tenaciously cling to a cause admirable to someone in the best interest of service to humanity?” It is clear from all indications that MURIC’s becoming ‘voice to be reckoned with’ had prevented business as usual for some society elements whose holier-than-thou game derides Muslims of many rights.
Its approach had benefited the Nigerian polity in many ways irrespective of their ethnic and religious affiliation.
In view of the above situation, the organization as a corporate entitity operates corporate account which is verifiable by the Security agents to ascertain the receival of such humungous amount of money. For avoidance of doubt, its sole account number is always published as addendum to Press Releases from the organization.
However, the Security agencies in charge of such matter must not hesitate to investigate the allegation with a view to bring to book the culprit. This would serve deterrent to others whose hubby is to man false accusations and campaign of calumny against innocent beings. MURIC would not be jilted by waves of conspiracy and egocentric propaganda of those who are bent on turning Muslims to slaves in their own land.
To this end, our appeals go to the umbrella body of Muslim organization in the country, the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs is to wade into the matter as a matter or urgency. The cause MURIC chat is magnificent and no amount of distractions can subvert its hands from advocating for the rights of Nigerian Muslim in particular and the polity in general.
