The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the Federal Government for approving salary increases for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the development as a major morale booster that will strengthen the country’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the salary increase as one of the dividends of the reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
TMV noted that the Federal Government had announced salary increases ranging between 30 per cent and 80 per cent for personnel of the Armed Forces, with officers from the rank of Colonel to General receiving a 30 per cent increase.
The group described the pay rise as long overdue, particularly against the backdrop of the numerous security challenges confronting the country, saying improved remuneration would motivate military personnel to give their best in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“It is noted that the Federal Government had announced an increase of between 30% and 80% in the salaries of the armed forces personnel. Based on the pay rise, officers from Colonel to Brigadier-General, Major-General, Lieutenant-General and General are to receive 30% increment.
“We consider the pay rise as long overdue, especially with the numerous security challenges confronting the country. There is no doubt that the Federal Government gesture will boost the morale of the personnel to put in their best in the discharge of their onerous responsibilities,” the group said.
TMV further expressed optimism that the salary increase would contribute to a more secure Nigeria, noting that the Armed Forces had remained at the forefront of the fight against terrorists and other violent criminals.
According to the group, enhanced remuneration is particularly important at a time when inflation has increased the cost of food and other essential commodities, adding that the welfare of troops should remain a priority.
The group also commended the Federal Government for its continued investment in military equipment and other operational resources aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Armed Forces.
TMV recalled that the Tinubu administration had acquired various equipment for the military as part of efforts to improve its operational effectiveness and strengthen security across the country.
The group expressed confidence that the salary hike, alongside improved equipment and other welfare measures, would go a long way in enabling the Armed Forces to effectively fulfil their constitutional mandate of protecting Nigerians and defending the territorial integrity of the country.
