REPRISAL ATTACK : Niger Police call for calm,intensify patrol

The Niger state Commissioner of Police CP Adamu Usman has ordered for a thorough investigation of the incident of public disturbance that led to reprisal attack in Gwazunu community in Suleja local government area of Niger state

CP Usman further directed transfer of the case to SCID Minna, while patrol has been intensified in the affected area to ensure public safety of lives and properties and to forestall any breach of public peace.

Recalled that on 2nd of June there was an attack of some Gauraka youths at Gwazunu area of Suleja LGA by Gwazunu youths during a football session which led to loss of a mobile phone of one of the Gauraka youths,the youths engaged in a football march against the regulations of social distancing, wearing of face mask and washing of hands or using hand sanitizers to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the State.

Gauraka youths in an attempt to avenge the attack and loss of phone, on 7th of June ,invaded Gwazunu area and one Nura Musa of Angwan Almajiri Gauraka in Tafa LGA was arrested by Vigilante members at Gwazunu area of Suleja LGA for mobilizing hoodlums known as “SARA–SUKA” to cause breach of peace in the area and he was taken to Gwazunu Police outpost.

Some youths in large numbers quickly mobilized, armed with dangerous weapons such as cutlass, stones, sticks, garrote and Dane gun with intent to lynch the suspect caused pandemonium and disagreement among the crowd, while gunshot was fired from the mob which caused one Vincent Alabi aged 29yrs of Gwazunu area injury. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

During physical examination of the corpse, it was revealed that there was bullet wound on the deceased forehead suspected to had been shot from the earlier shooting.

The Commissioner of Police has enjoined residents of the affected communities to obey the rules and regulations of the lockdown order of the Niger State on COVID-19, even on the ‘’window days’’ of Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays to maintain physical distancing, wearing of face mask and not engage on social activities like marriages and football games.
