The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has celebrated the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to reject the petition seeking her recall from the Senate, describing it as a triumph of democracy over political intimidation.
Reacting to the development, Akpoti-Uduaghan declared that the move to remove her from office had failed because it was built on falsehood and undemocratic principles. She credited her victory to the will of the people and divine intervention.
“On God, it’s victory for the people. One battle down, two more to go,” she wrote in a social media post shortly after INEC announced its decision.
In a statement released on Thursday, the senator accused political actors, including former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, of attempting to subvert the people’s mandate through the recall process. She described the attempt as a desperate move by forces afraid of her commitment to justice and good governance.
“God has put to shame the anti-democratic forces plotting my recall from the Senate, including one of the most wanted persons by the EFCC, former governor Yahaya Bello. I never feared because I have a God that never fails, and I have the people on my side,” she said.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan lauded INEC for standing firm in defense of democracy, emphasizing that the rejection of the recall petition was a testament to the people’s unwavering support for her leadership.
“The decision to reject the recall process is not just a personal victory but a victory for democracy. INEC has demonstrated that it is truly independent and will not be used as a tool for political victimization. This is proof that justice will always prevail,” she added.
The senator, who has been a strong advocate for transparency and accountability, vowed to continue representing the interests of her constituents despite political distractions.
With INEC’s decision effectively halting the recall process, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains in office, strengthening her position as a formidable political force in Kogi Central.
