The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of 12 travelers from the Basawa community in Zaria, Kaduna State, who were ambushed in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Abdullahi Krishi.
The victims, reportedly en route to Qua’an Pan LGA for the wedding of a colleague, were attacked around 8:00 pm on Friday night while traveling in a bus belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. According to reports, 12 of the passengers were killed and their bodies set ablaze in the vehicle, while several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care.
Describing the attack as “barbaric, tragic, and cruel,” Speaker Abbas lamented the continued loss of innocent Nigerian lives in such brutal circumstances, emphasizing that no one should be harmed for merely going about their peaceful daily activities.
“The killings of Nigerians in whatever guise must stop forthwith. We cannot afford to be losing the lives of our compatriots in such cruel and barbaric manner. This is condemnable and unacceptable,” the Speaker stated.
He called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, stressed that the culture of impunity must be halted.
Speaker Abbas extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for divine strength to bear the painful loss. He also offered prayers for the quick recovery of those injured in the attack.
