The Department of State Service,DSS has released the Abuja Bureau Chief of Daily Independent , Tony Ezimakor after 7days in custody, over a Publication . According to Jide Oyekunle, Ezimakor was released to his lawyer, Barr.Douglas Ekhator at about 10:30pm. NUJ Warns Senate Over Hate Speech Bill

The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has called on the Senate to tread with caution in their consideration of a bill before it that proposes capital punishment for hate speech offenders. The Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) has rejected claims by the Nigeria police that two of its members, Messrs. Timothy and Daniel Elombah, are terrorists and that they breached the country’s cybercrime rules because they approved the publication of an opinion article, deemed offensive by the police, on their website. NPO Proscribes Beat Associations

The umbrella media body, the Nigeria Press Organisation (NPO), has proscribed Beat associations by journalists. NPO is made up of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
