The Democratic Front (TDF) has described the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted by terrorists in Oyo State as a major security breakthrough, claimed the operation has weakened the opposition’s attempt to use insecurity as a campaign issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group expressed delight over the rescue of the victims, who were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
TDF commended the security agencies for what it described as their professionalism, coordination and teamwork, saying the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of the Federal Government’s security strategy under President Bola Tinubu.
According to the group, the rescue operation represents a landmark achievement in the country’s efforts to combat terrorism and banditry since the Tinubu administration assumed office in May 2023.
The group alleged that opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had become noticeably silent following the successful rescue after earlier criticising the government over the abduction.
It further claimed that the opposition had failed to present alternative policy proposals to challenge the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, accusing them instead of engaging in what it termed “scandal fishing” in an attempt to discredit the government’s performance.
TDF argued that the successful rescue had frustrated what it described as efforts by the opposition to exploit the Oyo abduction for political advantage ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group also accused Atiku and Obi of refusing to acknowledge the administration’s achievements in security, infrastructure and economic development, insisting that such an approach had weakened their political relevance.
While urging security agencies to sustain the momentum in the fight against insecurity, TDF called on the authorities to remain committed to ongoing efforts aimed at tackling terrorism, banditry and other security challenges across the country.
