The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting science, technology and engineering education by hosting science students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dukawuya, Kano State, on an educational excursion to its Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation.
The educational visit, held on August 4, 2026, was designed to expose the students to the practical aspects of electricity transmission, giving them first-hand experience of the nation’s power infrastructure while complementing theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom.
During the tour, TCN engineers took the students through the electricity transmission process, explaining the critical roles of major substation equipment, control room operations, and the strict safety procedures observed in managing the national transmission network.
The students also participated in an interactive session where they engaged with the engineers, asked questions, and received practical insights into the operations of Nigeria’s electricity transmission system and the career opportunities available in the power sector.
According to TCN, the excursion significantly enhanced the students’ understanding of the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure while inspiring greater interest in careers in science, engineering and technology.
The company noted that exposing young people to real-world engineering environments is essential to nurturing the next generation of professionals who will drive innovation and strengthen Nigeria’s power sector.
TCN further stated that the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence and capacity development through sustained educational outreach programmes.
