Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained deeply committed to religious freedom, democratic values, and the protection of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or background.
Reacting to the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged religious persecution, Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to remain calm, united, and defend the true image of the nation.
She referenced statements issued by President Tinubu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noting that Nigeria is a country built on tolerance, diversity, and mutual respect.
“The conspiracy theory depicting Nigeria as a country killing Christians in particular is not a true reflection of what is happening,” she said. “Nigeria remains steadfast in upholding democracy, religious freedom, and the protection of all citizens.”
The NIDCOM boss emphasized that President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated a commitment to ensuring equality before the law and promoting peaceful coexistence among all faith communities.
Dabiri-Erewa further called on Nigerians in the diaspora to counter false narratives about the country and support government efforts in addressing insecurity.
“The perception is definitely not true. There are issues with evil terrorists in some parts of the country, no doubt,” she stated. “What President Trump needs to do is to support our government’s efforts in quashing them, not to falsely denigrate our country.”
She reaffirmed that Nigeria will continue to work with international partners in promoting peace, justice, and unity across all divides.
