President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment, poverty, and idleness in Nigeria. Speaking through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, at the opening of the National Skills Acquisition Conference organized by The Progressive Institute (TPI), Tinubu described the initiative as critical to his government’s renewed hope agenda.
The three-day conference, held at the Banquet Hall in Abuja, focused on vocational skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and developmental challenges, underscoring the importance of empowering Nigerian youths to drive the country’s economic growth.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for synergy between federal and state efforts, ensuring maximum resource utilization to implement a comprehensive youth development strategy. He assured attendees that his administration would prioritize youth employment initiatives in the coming year and eagerly anticipated actionable recommendations from the conference.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, expressed optimism about the conference’s impact.
He highlighted the need for skill acquisition programs to harness Nigeria’s population potential, calling it a vital tool for economic diversification. Ganduje urged the media to support government efforts in driving sustainable development.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, commended TPI’s pioneering approach to youth empowerment. He assured participants of the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the livelihood of Nigerians.
Dr. Lanre Adebayo, Director General of TPI, applauded Dr. Ganduje’s dedication to youth skill development and his unwavering support for the Renewed Hope Agenda. He assured that the APC’s investments in this sector would soon yield tangible results for the nation’s youth.
The conference brought together stakeholders from academia, government, and civil society across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. It culminated in the formation of a high-powered committee tasked with compiling actionable recommendations for submission to the federal government.
