President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a proposed budget of N1.481 trillion for Rivers State to the National Assembly for approval.
The request was read on the floor of the House of Representatives by Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas during Thursday’s plenary session.
President Tinubu explained that the proposal became necessary following the nullification of the 2025 Rivers State budget by the Supreme Court and the ongoing emergency rule in the state, which has rendered the State House of Assembly non-functional.
In line with Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the National Assembly is empowered to assume legislative responsibilities for any state under emergency rule.
Breakdown of the proposed budget shows:
N324 billion allocated for infrastructure,
N166 billion for healthcare,
N75.6 billion for education, and
N31.4 billion for agriculture.
President Tinubu emphasized that the agricultural component of the budget is projected to generate over 6,000 jobs, and appealed to lawmakers to expedite the passage of the appropriation for the benefit of the state’s residents.
