Troops of the 17 Brigade, operating under Operation Fasan Yamma, neutralised eight bandits in a successful early morning encounter along the Kurfi–Batsari Road in Katsina State on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.
The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. when troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kurfi engaged terrorists attempting to launch an attack in the area. The gun battle, which lasted for some time, ended in victory for the troops who overpowered the assailants, foiled their plans.
During the operation, five AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from the terrorists. However, one soldier sustained injuries and has since been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment.
The Defence Headquarters, through the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General MG Kangye, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the troops. He reiterated the military’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across the country.
“The situation is under control, and the troops remain in high morale and combat readiness,” the statement noted.
