Who Will Save the DSS? By Olaleye Olawale

Former President Muhammadu Buhari laid the foundation for the decimation of the DSS, and it appears President Bola Tinubu has begun to sustain that condescending practice with the same agency.

The desecration and reduction of the DSS to a mere political tool started when Buhari sidestepped its report on a former EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, and left him there for five years in acting capacity.

Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo tried to salvage the situation when it fired the agency’s former DG, Lawal Daura, after their shameful outing at the National Assembly, in the bid to oust the former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Unfortunately, not much has since changed. Whatever happened today at the Federal High Court in Lagos during the trial of the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is an even more shameful and distasteful turn of events.

The usual lame excuse that the president was not aware or might not be aware is no longer tenable. It is a foolish thing to say now and ever.

Otherwise, this is how strong institutions are killed for the reign of malevolent men in power.

May Nigeria always win. Amen
