The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening social intervention programmes aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians through strategic partnerships with development organisations.
In a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Janet McDickson Noah, the Ministry disclosed that the meeting with a delegation from the World Bank was held on May 22, 2026, at the conference room of the Honourable Minister to discuss emergency support initiatives and strategies to improve the welfare of vulnerable households across Nigeria.
Speaking during the meeting, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Doro, described the National Social Registry as more than a database, noting that it serves as a strategic national tool for identifying poor and vulnerable households across the country.
According to the Minister, the registry ensures that government social interventions are evidence-based, properly targeted, and impactful in addressing poverty and social inequality.
Dr. Doro further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty through sustainable social protection initiatives. He expressed optimism that more development partners would join hands with the Federal Government to improve access to healthcare, education, and other essential social services for vulnerable citizens.
The Minister also stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the government and international development agencies to expand support systems capable of improving the welfare and living standards of millions of households nationwide.
Leader of the World Bank delegation, Roberts Chase, reaffirmed the Bank’s continued support for Nigeria’s social intervention programmes. He noted that Nigeria currently possesses the largest social registry in Africa, describing it as a significant foundation for effective poverty reduction and social protection efforts.
