The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, responsible and people-centred communication as it joined public relations practitioners across Nigeria and the world in commemorating the 2026 World Public Relations Day.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Information Services, Niger State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim, who said this year’s celebration, themed “The Golden Age of Strategic Public Relations,” highlights the growing importance of strategic communication in promoting trust, strengthening institutional credibility and fostering sustainable development.
According to the statement, public relations goes beyond publicity, serving as a strategic instrument for building mutual understanding between government and the people, promoting transparency, managing institutional reputation and encouraging informed public participation in governance.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, commended public relations practitioners, information officers and media professionals for their unwavering commitment to ethical communication and responsible information management in the service of the people of Niger State.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago-led administration to open, transparent and people-centred communication in line with the New Niger Agenda, stressing that timely and accurate dissemination of information remains vital to strengthening public trust and accelerating the state’s development.
The Commissioner also urged communication professionals to uphold the principles of truth, professionalism, integrity and accountability while leveraging modern communication tools to combat misinformation, foster social cohesion and promote constructive public engagement.
As the world marks the 2026 World Public Relations Day, the Ministry called on Nigerlites to embrace responsible information sharing and active civic engagement as collective efforts toward building a more informed, united and prosperous Niger State.
