Yoruba leaders and newly inaugurated executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging deeper grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached during a high-level interactive meeting held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, bringing together Yoruba APC stakeholders drawn from 62 wards across Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari and the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The meeting, convened by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet, in collaboration with the Mandate Secretary, FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi, focused on strengthening party cohesion, enhancing political participation and deepening inclusion within the FCT political space.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the session, participants unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to the Tinubu administration and resolved to intensify efforts in promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda across communities in the territory. They also expressed collective determination to mobilise support for the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
The stakeholders stressed the importance of sustained grassroots engagement, urging Yoruba residents in Abuja to take greater ownership of political participation and to actively support the dissemination of government policies and programmes at community level.
The meeting also undertook a strategic review of party structures across the Area Councils, drawing from SWOT analyses presented by various representatives. The insights, according to the communiqué, will serve as a framework for strengthening internal organisation, improving coordination and addressing challenges affecting party effectiveness at ward and council levels.
On governance and representation, the leaders called for greater inclusion of Yoruba residents in appointments and decision-making structures within the FCT, arguing that political contributions at the grassroots should be reflected in fair representation. They maintained that inclusivity remains essential for strengthening loyalty, stability and democratic engagement.
The forum further emphasised the need for improved delivery of palliatives and social interventions, noting that visible dividends of democracy are critical to sustaining public trust and political support. It also encouraged reconciliation among party members, cautioning against internal divisions capable of undermining collective strength, particularly in areas where past primaries had generated grievances.
Participants commended emerging Yoruba political leaders and executives across the FCT for their growing contributions to the party’s development, describing their emergence as a sign of increasing political relevance within the territory. They also praised stakeholders who continue to support party structures through personal commitment and resources.
The meeting highlighted the importance of sustaining stakeholder engagement as a continuous process rather than a one-off event, with participants agreeing on the need for regular consultations to strengthen coordination and strategic planning.
Special commendation was extended to Abiodun Essiet for her role in mobilising grassroots support and fostering political engagement across the North Central region. Participants acknowledged her contributions to strengthening ties between Yoruba communities in the FCT and the party leadership.
The session concluded with a collective resolve to return to their respective communities with renewed commitment to unity, political discipline and mobilisation efforts aimed at consolidating support for the APC and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda in the Federal Capital Territory.
