The Niger State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging bandit attacks on schools in parts of the state, described the claims as false, misleading, and aimed at causing panic among residents.
In a public service announcement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, reassured parents, guardians, students, and the general public that schools across the state remain safe and conducive for teaching and learning.
The government specifically refuted reports of alleged attacks on schools in Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse, Lambata, and other communities, stating that investigations and security assessments conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Niger State Police Command, and other relevant agencies confirmed that no such incidents occurred.
According to the statement, the reports were entirely unfounded and designed to create fear, anxiety, and unnecessary tension among residents.
The state government reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of students, teachers, and school communities, noting that it continues to work closely with security agencies, school administrators, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strengthen security measures around educational institutions.
Parents and guardians were urged to remain calm and continue sending their children and wards to school, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place to protect lives and property within and around schools.
The government also advised members of the public to verify information through official government channels and accredited security agencies before sharing or acting on reports, warning that the spread of unverified information undermines efforts to maintain peace, security, and social stability.
While appreciating the vigilance and cooperation of residents, the government reaffirmed its determination to ensure that schools across Niger State remain safe environments for learning and development.
Residents were further encouraged to remain security conscious and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies.
