ZAMFARA SHOOTING: Affected Prospective Corps Member not abandoned,says NYSC

The NYSC management has debunked a news making rounds in the social media with the caption”ZAMFARA TROUPS FIRE AT COMMERCIAL VEHICLE”stating that the prospective corps member involved in the incident is abandoned.

While reacting to the media reports,the scheme in a release signed by Director, Press and Public Relations,Eddy Megwa said;

“It is indeed a fact that one of our Prospective Corps Members Alh. Umar Abubakar was mistakingly shot by a security team that was combatting terrorist operating around Talata-Mafara close to Gusau.

Umar Abubakar who schooled at College of Agric Gugba, Yobe State was on his way to NYSC Orientation Camp Sokoto to answer the clarion call when the incedent occurred about 10.30 PM.

“The management wishes to state that it is an absolute false story that NYSC did not rise up to the responsibility of taking care of the Prospective corps member. In fact, when NYSC Sokoto was informed of the incident same day, urgent steps were taken to move Abubakar to Talata Mafara healthcare facility where he was given a first aid treatment and subsiqently referred to Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital where he is presently receiving treatment.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Management of the scheme in Sokoto provided everything required for the treatment and welfare of the Prospective Corps Member. Abubakar can on his own testify to this fact. Presently he is recovering very fast and will soon be discharged

“We therefore call on members of the public to disregard the misleading information contained in the write up as it is aimed at causing disaffection in the society.

‘It is however instructive to note that NYSC takes issues that concerns our Corps Members’ welfare very serious and the present Director General Brigadier General Mohammad Kaku Fada has this as a priority in his 5points agenda for his administration.

“We therefore call on the online media to please get their facts straight before publishing”.
